Fast Five With K D Grace!

NG: Welcome to Fast Five with K D Grace! Hey, K D!

KD: Hi Nichelle! Thanks so much for having me on Fast Five!

NG: My pleasure, K D! Let's jump right in! What's Body Temperature and Rising all about?

KD: Body Temperature and Rising is about a coven of witches who are under siege by a demon who carries a very old grudge against the high priestess, Tara Stone. Both the coven’s near destruction and the help they need to subdue Deacon, the demon, comes in the unusual package of Marie Warren, an American running away from the fast pace life of an investment banker to the peace of the Cumbrian countryside, where she has taken up residence in a cottage on a farm belonging to the very sexy, Tim Meriwether, who has had his own run-ins with Deacon. Up until a voyeuristic encounter on the fells in which Marie watches Tara and the charming ghost, Anderson make love, she has no idea that she has the power to enflesh ghosts and release demons. She and Tim are drawn into the Elemental Coven and taught the rare form of sex magic the coven practices, a form of magic that gives ghost temporary access to the pleasures of the flesh. The same power of lust that gives corporeal form can also take away. It is the power of Marie and Tim’s lust that is the key to defeating Deacon before he can take his revenge and destroy them all.

NG: Ooo...I love the premise! Why did you want to write this story?

KD: Believe it or not, the story started out as a project for National Novel Writing Month three years ago. It was my first attempt at an erotic novel and my first attempt at writing anything paranormal. The inspiration for the novel came from an experience my husband and I had when walking the high fells in the Lake District. We got caught in a storm and the mist came down. It was quite frightening when a fairly familiar path suddenly seemed suddenly alien. That experience inspired the open scene. I knew from the beginning the novel would be set in the Lake District because it’s one of my very favourite places on the planet, and it’s a perfect setting for ghosts and witches.

I did get the rough draft of the novel finished in the allotted month, but by that time I had other projects going, and I set it aside. In the meantime I published The Initiation of Ms Holly and The Pet Shop with Xcite Books. Then one day I pulled out the manuscript for Body Temperature and Rising, then called Love Spells, and on a lark, rewrote the first three chapters and sent them to Xcite. They said yes! It was only when I started to work seriously on the second draft that I realized the scope of the story I wanted to tell was way too big for one novel, so I proposed the Lakeland Heatwave Trilogy to Xcite, and again they said yes.

NG: How exciting! Why are you drawn to writing paranormal romances?

KD: I spent several years working with a Wiccan coven and studying paganism, and since I started writing erotica, I have found myself fascinated with the idea of sex as magic, as sex being the catalyst to set magic in motion. The world in which my witches and ghosts live is a world where powerful spells are woven through sex, insights are made into the deeper self through sex and healing of ancient wounds can only take place in the arms of a loving, giving sexual relationship.

NG: Sex and magic is a delicious combo, K D! What do you think readers will love about this tale?

KD: So far readers are fascinated by the idea of sex magic. Also the story itself is fast paced, dark and more than a little bit scary. My characters are constantly walking a thin line between the pleasure of le petit mort and the danger of real death. There is a level of trust that develops in the whole coven family, which has lived in siege mode for a long time, when Tim and Marie become a part of their world. That sense of family and yet more than family, almost an open marriage type relationship gives the Elemental Coven the feel of a group, I think, people would like to be a part of. The sex is hot, the story is intense and the characters are all deeply and deliciously flawed. And the bad guy is really nasty too.

NG: Mmm...I want to read this book! What can readers look forward to next from K D Grace?

KD: Right now I’m working on Riding the Ether, which is the second book of the Lakeland Heatwave Trilogy, and I’m very excited about the twists and turns the Elemental Coven are taken me through along the way. I think it will be equally fast paced and intense and very sexy. When I’m done with that I hope to move right on into book three, Elemental Fire. I’ve also got a couple of shorter projects on my plate as well, including a novella.

NG: You're a busy lady! I'm so happy you stopped by to chat today, K D! I wish you all the best with this release!

KD: Thanks for having me, Nichelle. It’s a real pleasure to be here and to talk about Body Temperature and Rising.

Blurb: American transplant to the Lake District, MARIE WARREN, didn’t know she could unleash demons and enflesh ghosts until a voyeuristic encounter on the fells ends in sex with the charming ghost, ANDERSON and night visits from a demon. To help her cope with her embarrassing and dangerous new abilities, Anderson brings her to the ELEMENTALS, a coven of witches who practice rare sex magic that temporarily allows ghosts access to the pleasures of the flesh.

DEACON, the demon Marie has unleashed, holds an ancient grudge against TARA STONE, coven high priestess, and will stop at nothing to destroy all she holds dear. Marie and her landlord, the reluctant young farmer, TIM MERIWETHER, are at the top of his list. Marie and Tim must learn to wield coven magic and the numinous power of their lust to stop Deacon’s bloody rampage before the coven is torn apart and more innocent people die.

Caution! Super Sexy Excerpt Below: Fiori would not allow the return to Lacewing Cottage before stuffing everyone with roast chicken and all the trimmings topped off with raspberry white chocolate pavlova. They would all need their strength, she said, and none of the Elementals ever argued with Fiori where food was concerned. But by the time the last of the pavlova was eaten and the coffee was served up, Marie had the sneaking suspicion something else other than the fabulous meal was going on. She sat between Tim and Anderson, and even if she hadn’t been able to see that they both had fly-bursting hard-ons, the way they both squirmed and shifted and the smell of Tim’s heat would have been a dead giveaway. She was sure they both could smell her lust, even above the delicious scent of the meal, and she was more than a little bit worried that the cushion on her chair would be wet before the table was cleared. It was early evening when the three finally left for Lacewing Farm, amid a flurry of embraces and well-wishes from the three remaining witches.

Anderson took Marie by the hand and pulled her into the back seat of Tim’s Land Rover. Before Tim had the engine started, the ghost had her blouse open and a heavy-nippled breast excavated and pressed to his lips. Up front Tim adjusted the mirror so that Marie could see his eyes. Then before he started the engine, she heard the zip of his fly, and he wriggled and shifted in the seat. She saw his eyelids flutter, heard the hitch in his breath, then he revved the motor and they were off.

It wasn’t a long drive, but Marie was sure the windows would have been steamed had they not been wide open. Anderson had greedily freed both her breast and suckled them alternately while one hand found its way up under her short denim skirt and into her panties. All the while his erection, straining at his black trousers, rubbed and gouged against her thigh. Though she couldn’t see what Tim was doing, he was definitely driving with one hand on the wheel, and the way he was struggling to breathe left little doubt where his other hand was. That only made Anderson’s stroking and tweaking feel even hotter.

They barely got out of the Land Rover before Tim, making no effort to zip himself in -- though Marie doubted he could if he wanted to -- dragged her bodily from Anderson’s gropings. Then he took her mouth for himself and yanked aside the crotch of her panties to finger his way in between her creamy folds.

Anderson shoved in next to him, as close as he could get, and went to work kneading her breasts and kissing and nibbling any bare skin he could find. There was getting to be more and more of it by the second, as they all three stumbled and pushed their way toward the door of Tim’s cottage.

‘They did something to us, didn’t they?’ Tim gasped when he came up for air. ‘Some sort of spell.’ Then he went back to eating her mouth as though he hadn’t just had Fiori’s four course meal.

‘Magic was not necessary,’ Anderson breathed, nipping at a tender spot on Marie’s nape. ‘We three are not in need of their assistance where the pleasures of the flesh are concerned.’

They shoved and groped and pushed their way into the lounge. There was a fire built in the fireplace and an open bottle of wine breathing on the coffee table accompanied by three glasses. Marie figured Tiggs and Finney had taken care of that on Fiori’s orders.

As both men tugged her down into the pile of cushions on the stripped wood floor, she took the initiative. She guided Anderson’s right hand from her breasts down to rest on Tim’s erection, which was shoving at her thigh. And it was as though everything was suddenly freeze framed. The only sound, the only hint of motion was their own desperate breathing and the crackle and dance of the fire.
